Founded in 1894 by Charles Kohler and John Calvin Campbell, Kohler and Campbell was one of the biggest and most successful piano manufacturers ever. Many older American brand names were absorbed into Kohler & Campbell during the Great Depression. Ceasing in 1985 in America, Kohler & Campbell is now owned and manufactured by Samick in South Korea.

A studio piano has increased height, expanding the soundboard and string length, which projects a more powerful sound than smaller instruments. Professional musicians also prefer a studio sized piano for its rich tone, comparable to many grand pianos.
